Music Sounds Better with You.

Some jams just never get old, especially those that were produced in excess of a decade ago by artists still taking the world by storm today. Stardust, a Parisian trio comprised of famed producers Alan Braxe and Thomas Bangalter (Daft Punk), and pop-vocalist Benjamin Diamond forged themselves into one hit wonders in their own right. But Music Sounds Better with You wasn’t just a catchy tune one hummed as they twiddled their thumb at the bus stop or screamed at the top of thier lungs while loaded on wine coolers with their girlfriends moments before a well needed time-out in the ladies room – its near epic presence has never left the mixtape, dancefloor or after party! Every basement dj from here to there has attempted their own take on the house track, and while many measure up in permiting new generations to be permeated by the song’s innate excellence, none will be as good as the original.

DFA 1979

I must admit, I never really recognized the high-level cool factor of Toronto’s dance-punk duo, Death from Above 1979, until relatively recently. In fact, it wasn’t until I heard the myriad of remixes pumped out in the last 3 years following Jesse and Sebastien’s blog-announced break-up that I recognized the versatility and scope of their sound. And, while I am riding the honesty bus, I should admit that it wasn’t until Jesse formed MSTRKFT with DFA 1979 producer, Alex Puodziukas or Al-P, that I really took a liking to them and the novel influence they held. Still, I am not a huge DFA fan. I do love Black History Month and Romantic Rights. And I especially love what French electro duo, Alan Braxe and Fred Falke have done to BHM.

What can I say? I am a sucker for remixes.

The french front-runner, Fred Falke

French house producer/Dj, Fred Falke, is truly a master in his own art. In his decade-long career he’s worked with big-wigs like Alan Braxe and Khris Menace, and never seems to let me down with his ability to renew über popular tracks, turning them into something completely novel for a second time around.

Lykke Li – Im Good, Im Gone (Fred Falke Rmx)
Hot Chip – Colors (Fred Falke Rmx)
Whitest Boy Alive – Golden Cage (Fred Falke Rmx)
