TGIF

In light of yesterday’s untimly passing I think a little rocking-out is more than necessary. My appologies for the lack of Michael in this edition of TGIF, I’m limited to what has been prepreped in advance as I am at work without access to the library. Happy Friday.

Phoenix – Lisztomania (Der Die Das Rmx)
The Roots – The Seed 3.0 (Don Diablo Rmx)
Tunderheist – Nothing 2 Step 2 (Futurecop! Rmx)
The Penelopes – Stuck in Lalaland (80 Kidz Rmx)

Yeah, they’re coming! Yeah, they rock!! Yeah, heads will roll!!!

I awoke to some pleasing news yesterday, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are closing the show at this year’s Bluesfest! Just days ago I reviewed my summer 2009 festival and show line-up, which I think is shaping up quite nicely. The roster currently includes first time viewings of Santogold, Amanda Blank, Lykke Li, Cold Play, Beastie Boys, Beast, Neko Case and Holy F*ck!, and a slew of welcomed repeat acts like, Thunderheist, the Roots, Crystal Castles, Girltalk and maybe, if all goes well, Cut Copy. Following my review, I created a shortlist of acts I wanted to see and it just so happens to include the NYC indie sensations. I am pretty excited, mostly because I am still legitimately riding the high off their most recent album, It’s Blitz, which dropped back in March.

Heads Will Roll is pretty much my fave tune on the album. Here’s a taste of what others had to bring to it. If you ask me there appears to be a little it of a concensus on the alternative interpretation.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll (Lego Beat Dark Cuts Rmx)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll (DIGIRAATII Dance Til You\’re Dead Rmx)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll (Young Live Starters Rmx)

Bonus!

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Hysteric (Acoustic)

I admit that my first review of this year’s festival was a little brash, and the lineup is settling well with me as we get closer to the date, and with this addition of course. I maintain my belief that the year is a little weak in comparison to others but I am feeling a little more relaxed than I had initially.

This year’s Bluesfest runs from July 8-19. You can check the whole line-up here.

Idiotproof gives ya little 2 step 2

I’m not sure Idiotproof really does Greg or Isis any justice here. Check it out and judge it for yourself. I will say that he really made it his own, and that I appreciate that.

Imgine that.

So as I am prepping my departure from Thunderheist‘s remarkable show at the MTL’s Club Soda on Saturday night I receive a text from another friend of mine offering me and my mate VIP entrance to MSTRKRFT‘s album release party at the Metropolis so long as I could get there quick. Conveniently for me and my long-time mate, we were right across the street. Imagine that – Thunderheist and MSTRKRFT in one night. Whoa!

Neither show was better than the other, I mean the two acts are hardly comparable. That said, each show was a bass pounding, hands in the air frenzy! Fist of God is an understated metaphore to express the hold MSTRKRFT had over its crowd; and need I say something similar about Greg and Isis? – I think not. It goes without saying they thier performace stole the hearts and asses of all in attendance from the initial drop.

Here’s a tune off MSTRKRFT’s new album, Fist of God;

MSTRKRFT – Heartbreaker feat. John Legend

And here’s a bonus rmx thats been making its float about the blogs recently,

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Zero (MSTRKRFT Rmx)

p.s. I really wanted to post MSTRKRFT’s Bounce Feat. N.O.R.E. and Thunderheist’s, Isis but am at work and don’t have access to my database so I am required to exploite the links of others. You can grab the Bounce and see pics from the MSTRKRFT show here.

I’m seeing double.

Thunderheist is in town tonight for the Ottawa installment of their Exclaim! 17th anniversary tour. And while all things are a go for heading to see them play MTL’s Club Soda tomorrow evening despite the fact I’ve nothing to wear, I am pretty sure I will hit up tonight’s hometown show as well. So in the spirit of seeing double, here’s a Thunderheist double whammy for ya’s!

Thunderheist – Jerk It
Thunderheist – Jerk It (Nacho Lovers Rmx)

Hop on back tomorrow for another session of seeing double!

A whole lot 2 step 2!

Here’s the brand new video from Greg and Isis, aka Thunderheist, for their forthcoming single Nothing 2 Step 2 which is to be released April 20th on Big Dada – the American extension of Britain’s Ninjatune and host of great acts like the famed French hip-hop artists TTC, Roots Manuva, Two Fingers, Spank Rock, and Diplo. Diplo (Wesley Pentz) recently released a new album on Dada as well. Decent work for decent play is reported to be an overview of what Diplo’s been up to for the past 4 years since the release of Florida and is certainly worth the listen. If you’ve missed either you can more than likely download them for free but I would recommend hopping over to the Ninjatune Ninjashop where you can buy either the CD or the Mp3 pac.

This vid is truly amazing. A simply edited production which provides a pretty profound impact.

Greg and Isis will be taking the stage at Montreal’s Club Soda on April 11. If you’ve not seen them before and are in the area be sure to check this show! Its worth making the trip for. The two never disappoint the crowd.
