Unstoppable

Santogold_signHands Up

There is only one way to describe Santogold after the killer performance her, Amanda Blank and Spankrock gave the wild crowd in MTL Thursday, and I think she sums it up well in the track….

Santogold – Unstoppable

Amanda Blank!

Philly’s female misogynist, Amanda Blank, is nothing short of amazing. Her solo tracks, which have been produced by the likes of Spank Rock and Pace Rock are urban but playful, her collabs with queens of all things cool, M.I.A. and Santogold redefine the role of women in the hipster-hop and her style, well look at her. I’ve not yet seen her live but hope to grab the chance when she hits either the MTL or TO stage with Santogold in early June. Blank’s debut album I Love Youdrops July 14th and is produced by the sensational Diplo, Switch and XXXChange!

Amanda Blank – Might like you better
Britney Spears – Gimme More (Eli/Grayson Mix feat Amanda Blank)
Santogold – I’m a lady (Diplo Rmx feat. Amanda Blank)
Paul Simon – 50 Ways feat. Amanda Blank (Chipset & Devlin Rmx)

For all you Ottawa folk, rumours are flying that Paul Simonis slated to play this year’s Cisco Bluesfest!!!!

From the mailbag.

A couple weeks back I posted on Dj Sexwax and offered some praise towards his edit of Spank Rock‘s Put that Pussy on Me. Well here it is – in all its glory. Sexwax was nice enough to drop it in the mail box earlier this month. My apologies for the delay.

Old news can be good news.

I’m a little late on this one but better late than never.

In the summer of 2007, I think most us were insanely excited in a dense cloud of disbelief to hear of Sam Spiegel (Dj Squeak E. Clean) and Dj Zegon‘s project N.A.S.A. – North America/South America. The appropriately titled project links the sounds and famed faces of the North and South to form a remarkable album of somewhat unimaginable collaborations; Tom Waits, M.I.A., George Clinton, Kanye, Lykke Li, Spank Rock, SantoGold, RZA, the YYY’s, Red Hot Chili Peppers and even Seu Jorge…Whao! If you’ve not heard the album, Spirit of Apollo, which dropped mid-February, I would highly recommend you do so now. Each track is like a 3-5 minute mental trip to Coachella.

Could there be a better combo than the one we have here?

N.A.S.A. – Gifted feat. Kanye West, Santogold, Lykke Li

FYI – Spiegel is reportedly working on a film detailing the N.A.S.A. project with older bother, Spike Jonze.

Letters from Australia

My love-professing post on OZ the other day have and the many posts on Aussie kids like Empire of the Sun and Cut Copy have made it pretty evident that I am blown away by the talents of the land down under. Australian Dj and producer, Dj Sexwax, dropped these Cut Copy and Ladyhawke mixes in my inbox yesterday and I couldn’t help but offer ’em up to you! The Back of the Vanedit is undeniably killer – its 80’s synth/electro pop addition will make any heart palpitate. And well, pretty much any Cut Copy mix is sure to get me fired up – especially one with an oldskool breakbeat sample or two!

Ladyhawke – Back of the Van (Sexwax Rmx)
Cut Copy – Far Away (Sexwax Rmx)

Hop over to his Myspace for a dope mix of Spankrock‘s Put That Pussy On Me.

A whole lot 2 step 2!

Here’s the brand new video from Greg and Isis, aka Thunderheist, for their forthcoming single Nothing 2 Step 2 which is to be released April 20th on Big Dada – the American extension of Britain’s Ninjatune and host of great acts like the famed French hip-hop artists TTC, Roots Manuva, Two Fingers, Spank Rock, and Diplo. Diplo (Wesley Pentz) recently released a new album on Dada as well. Decent work for decent play is reported to be an overview of what Diplo’s been up to for the past 4 years since the release of Florida and is certainly worth the listen. If you’ve missed either you can more than likely download them for free but I would recommend hopping over to the Ninjatune Ninjashop where you can buy either the CD or the Mp3 pac.

This vid is truly amazing. A simply edited production which provides a pretty profound impact.

Greg and Isis will be taking the stage at Montreal’s Club Soda on April 11. If you’ve not seen them before and are in the area be sure to check this show! Its worth making the trip for. The two never disappoint the crowd.
